Sama Veda is one of the four Vedas that are considered foundational sacred scriptures of Hinduism.
The Samhita portion of Sama Veda consists of hymns that are derived from books 8 and 9 of the Rig Veda Samhita, These hymns are dedicated to the Vedic god Soma.
Sama Veda comprises of Pañchavimsha Brahmana and the Jaiminiya Brahmana.
The Aranyakas in Sama Veda are Aranyaka-samhita and the Jaiminiya-upanisad-brahmana Aranyaka.
Chandogya Upanishad and Kena Upanishad, considered to be primary Vedas and influential in shaping Hindu philosophy, are to be found in the Sama Veda.
The existing compilation of Sama Veda are thought to be from 1200 or 1000 BCE – roughly contemporaneous with the Atharva Veda and the Yajur Veda.
